I am Hayley Simonson, a student at the University of North Florida majoring in communication with a focus in multimedia journalism and a minor in political science. From a young age, I began to create my own news stories on my cellphone or with my father’s old camcorders. I mimicked what I saw on Cable TV, added my creative touch, and then edited them into interactive content for my friends and family to enjoy. Though child’s play back then, I now recognize this was a preview of who I was to become.

I have been able to gain experience in my internship roles and through the university news paper. I am reliable and timely with my work. I possess all the qualities you would look for in a future journalist such as fearlessness, curiosity, and strong editorial ethics, as well as creative writing and excellent reporting skills. I am thorough in my investigative reporting and believe in maintaining a strong commitment to protecting sources. I have never missed a deadline.

I have experience with computer software such as RSS, HTML, and Adobe Flash Player, specifically Adobe Premier Final Cut Pro, and Adobe Photoshop. I am also capable of editing photos, audio, and video. I am extremely familiar with podcast editing and am qualified in operating all social networking platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. I am proficient in blogging and blogging platforms, and I have utilized them to express my creative content. I am also knowledgeable with remote data transmission.

 

Along with being academically and professionally qualified, I do not just see my future job as a simple segue to future career success. I see opportunities in future positions to learn from skilled professionals and practice my skills in pursuit of becoming even more adept at this career I've chosen. Combined with my passion for journalism and the skills I am equipped with, I will be successful at creating journalistic material that strikes conversations, world debates, and inspires people. I will offer creative solutions in stories and seek pure truths that help people understand the world they live in. My ultimate goal is to relay information in a way that is powerful, accurate, insightful and entertaining. In my past positions, I have always strived to impress my employers with a humble, hard-working attitude, a desire to learn more, determination to get the job done, and a drive to make my work the most excellent possible.
